I have been bitten by the craft bug and it is catching as all the kid wants to do is play with glue and paper. I love that she loves being arty but am trying to come to grips with how much white glue and glue sticks we're going through at a rapid pace in our house. So I've been testing out different glue recipes. The following one resembles the craft paste that used to be in every elementary school classroom before glue sticks came on the market.
1/4c corn starch
3/4c cold water
2 tbsp corn syrup (light)
1 tsp white vinegar
Few drops of wintergreen oil (I didn't have this and used peppermint extract instead)
Put 1/4c corn starch in medium sauce pot, slowly stir in cold water. Add corn syrup and vinegar. Cook, stir constantly over medium heat until mixture is smooth & thick. Remove from heat. Stir in oil of wintergreen. Mixture will be thin but may be used immediately or let cool and store for later use. Should keep for 2 months.
