I like to eat like a kid

so making homemade franks and beans is a big win in my book. I like hotdogs – well to be frank, I like turkey dogs. I know - kind of wrong, but they just taste better.  This recipe, adapted from Allergy-Friendly Food for Families was tasty and easy to make.

Homemade Baked Beans
2 tbsp canola oil
2 large onion, yellow or white - diced
2 tsp paprika, I prefer a sweeter variety, but feel free to use smokey if that's what you prefer
3/4 c Heinz ketchup
4 tbsp molasses, black strap preferred
6 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 x 15oz cans pinto beans - rinse and drain before using
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
3 tbsp maple syrup
1 package turkey dogs

In a large pan, heat oil over med-high heat. Add onion, sautee until soft & translucent. Add paprika and sautee for a minute.

Add ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce & maple syrup - cook for about 2 minutes until it just begins to bubble.

Add pinto beans and cut up turkey dogs. Cook, partially covered for 10 minutes - or until the beans & turkey dog pieces are warmed through. Salt/Pepper to taste. Enjoy!

PS - left overs are great in school lunches!
